Recorded sound was a revolution in the 1870s. It was what we today call mono sound because it needs only one sound channel. The human voice could be recorded and reproduced for the first time, to everyone's amazement.
Stereo and surround sound on two or more channels was invented in the 1930s. Stereo became the norm in the 60s and reproduced sound as an almost 3-dimentional experience, whereas surround was popularized in the 90es.
But stereo and surround has its limitations – it needs two or more speakers, the listener must be at a specific location and cannot move around freely, and the speakers and listening space must be calibrated to prevent an alien sound experience.
However, about 80% of today's listeners do in fact not listen to stereo set-ups, nor do they even know what stereo listening is! They prefer the commodity of a single unit speaker with a mono setup they can bring with them.
We sent the first man on the moon in 1969 listening to stereo sound. Surround sound is an expanded version of stereo, with the same constraints as stereo.
It is time to upgrade the sound experience with acoustic sound quality to everyone, everywhere, with one speaker delivering multiple channels.
Imerz® sound is the new normal after mono, stereo and surround.
The invention is innovative and could change the sound image in the loudspeaker industry.
